Time Warner reported earlier today that their Helenican hit, "300" has become the fastest selling high definition movie of all time, moving more than a quarter million copies in less than a week.
Time Warner noted that consumers picked up "300" on Blu-ray by almost a 2:1 margin over HD-DVD, signifying a trend which USAToday reports has been the story since the beginning of the year. As the sales numbers consistently return postively for Blu-ray, Sony's format continues to outpace HD-DVD.
Here at PSU we find ourselves asking if Microsoft might not be forced to move to the downloadable distribution model next generation, which Bill Gates proposed several years ago. One thing is certain: Blu-Ray is Sony's innovation and unless HD-DVD is able to turn something around fast, the format is destined to be mothballed.

300 March to Glory Trailer
that's supa cool that movie was crazy good to glad to hear it
Somebody's scared of Sony's invention...
lets see the battle and the two warriors. Hd DVD to Blu Ray HD dvd break down 25 gigs of mem good 720p visual at about around 35$ . Blu Ray break down 50 gigs a great 1080p and for a total of 25-30 $ . It was so hard to see the winning out come here. Well micod!ck$ enjoy sucking down those lithium filled mothballs. Sony keep on rockin out with your c@ck out
Awesome news, but even better movie (got my Blu-Ray copy!). Even if you don't like the style or the gore, it's a sight to see at 1080p.
2:1? That kinda stings. Microsoft telling their gamers that they 'don't need' a Hi-Def drive is coming back to bite them.
cool, and now I'm proud to be one of those 300 blueray owners (since day one of course).
I bought a copy of 300 of Blu-ray a few days ago, and I got the last copy in the store at the time. Still have not watched it yet and I know it will be worth it. PS3, it's in the box!
go spartan go. 300 best movie of 2007
im lmost speachless
I had to order my copy of 300 via amazon. Every retail store around here in miami, fl were all sold out. But each store had the hd dvd version. I looked at a total of 6 stores all sold out. Bad a$ movie in tru hi def....
Remember the Sega Genesis add-ons? Sega-CD and 32X? Got damn! It was like the Genesis been gang banged by add-ons, talk about double penetration, LOL. Thank you Sony, for making it convenient with less $hit to jungle around.
Clearly much of Blu-Ray's success is from the PS3. Microsoft should have made it standard on the Elite...but they probably will in the future.
300 was a great movie, so I imagine it will be added to my Blu-Ray collection as soon as I get back home.
Yeah, I still have the trailer on my PS3, just because the photography in the movie is just amazing.
....Why is h-e-l-l a banned word? Thats not a swear word. Anyways, just wondering.
Certainly cool.. why people spend money on HD-DVD is beyond me. I have no idea.. you gotta be a complete moron to even consider it, especially this day - after seeing the system fail miserably up against Blu-Ray.
Cool! I just got my copy on Blu-Ray a couple of days ago as a B-day present!!! I think in the long run there gonna be some highly upset and pissed off SuXbox 180 owners, especially the ones who bought the HD-VCR add-on for their system. Blu-Ray will reign supreme with no doubt. Microsoft didnt have the right game plan and if they do end up adding Blu-Ray drives to their systems that will be a slap in the face to all early adopters and current owners.
HD-DVD = Betamax
Blu-Ray = VHS (it won)
WAHAHAHAHAHA time to be MOTH BALLED wahahhahaa plus xbox games arnt made on hd dvd any way and blueray is the one wiht the stroage space which relly matter microsoft get a life and except there a reason ps3 costs so much n you alredy screwed it up by not relasing 360 with this stuff and you cant chnage it now or all 360 owners will spz out on you
Love this film, im gonna buy it on Blu-Ray tommorow. GOOO SONY. WOOOOOOO!
Im gunna get my copy soon... 300 is the best movie I ever seen
I'm feel proud to be one of the one's that got 300(Blu-ray)too! THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I purchase 300 the second day it was out. I loved it when I seen it in the movies and had to get. Just imagine, I help Sony!!!
To all HD-DVD users, don't stay on the sinking ship!
blu ray will win regardless...hd-dvd does not stand a chance
this is good 300 is a great movie
down with hd-dvd
HD-DVD....RIP
Here we go again. Leave it to loyalist of PS3 and Blu Ray to get fuel from a false source. First of all, Warner did not say which sold what, they said "300 tops Hi-Def disc sales". They never stated which one actually outsold the other. Its apparent, from a business stand point, that keeping both formats going is making studios more money. Another thing I see all you guys saying is that the BD version of 300 is superior to the HD-DVD. Sorry fellas, the reality of it is, the HD-DVD was far more superior in terms of features. Microsoft developed a conversion program that will allow studios using VC-1 to convert them to Blu Ray streams as well, so what you see on HD-DVD is the excact same stream you see on Blu Ray Disc. Another thing I see you guys saying is that 300 on HD-DVD is 720p??? Lets not sound to fanboyish shal we, all HD-DVDs and Blu Ray Disc's are encoded at 24fps/1080p, period! Unless its from some hokey 2 bit distributor like Goodtimes home video :) This is what happens when you mix video game consoles with home video, you get game fanboys who dont know what they are talking about.
-DAD!
psn id: gingo.... when does this come out in UK i can't wait to see this in hi def
great news blu ray is going crazy at the moment. lets hope it keeps up
HD-DVD losing lets hurry up and kill it off, so that we can get the movies that are holding out to see the winner, like star wars, and lord of the rings, and universal which is only HD-DVD right now...................
at Supra2JZGTE;
Please go back to your beloved crapbox360 and your HDead DVD camp, the numbers are in:
300 Sells 163K on Blu-ray
the sales ratio was 65-to-35 in favor of Blu-ray, indicating around 163,000 copies of '300' on Blu-ray were sold.

Yeah, that Supra guy is a little slow. Blu-rays have generaly better audio due to the uncompressed audio afforded by the extra space.
bah, isn't HD-DVD alredy dead. I know some Xbox fanboy site wich are full of GOOD gamers.. that is.. not stupid fanboy. and there, most gamer acknowledge HD-DVD is dead and Son'y choice (and risk!) seems to be paying..
here we're sure that BD has already won, isn't it.
SOny's incredible risk with the PS3 (Cell Dev, BR, HDD, overall incredible hardware) will pay. Today, Mr Average Joe want a wii as he don't understand Value-for-Money, but tomorrow, the PS3's incredible hardware and price will pay..
the XBox360 is/was a good console.., it's the past2 years's console, but the next 2-5 year's console is the PS3..
kill HD DVD already, the war needs to end sometime. It's just getting ridiculous. Face it M$, you finally have a loser media format, a loser console, and a loser (vista) OS
