Church officials at Manchester Cathedral have gone on record to say that they have “forgiven” Sony for failing to ask permission over the depiction of the building in Insomniac’s PlayStation 3 title, Resistance: Fall of Man.
"I think some important lessons have been learnt. So we do forgive Sony for what they have done, even though they still believe they have done nothing wrong”, stated The Dean of Manchester Cathedral, Reverend Rogers Govender.
"In an industry that is breaking new frontiers, it is important that long held traditions of film and television are maintained. These traditions include having courtesy, respecting the dignity of your subject, and admitting when mistakes have been made.”
"In so many ways Sony have failed to live up to these standards by disrespecting people of faith and the victims of gun crime here in Manchester”, he added.
Despite this, Rogers noted that the Cathedral has received a spike in the number of visitors since the discrepancy earlier this year, particularly in those of a young age as well as tourists.

negative publicity seems to be good publicity :-D
WOW THANK YOU CHURCH !! (Sarcasm)
"we forgive them... they were still wrng but we forgive them... because we been loosing donations like crazy lately."
Let me go on record to say F**K the manchester cathedral
Hey Sony you can use my house without permision if you like for resistance 2, and depict it in any way you like, although its not as big or grand as manchester cathedral.
Tradition of film and TV? Of course the have to ask permission to physically be there. What they are asking is more akin to harrasing an artist because he painted a scene of england that has the church in it. It is there in real life, and that is what they were trying to convey.
These guys are some really sick b*stards....
"thanks for putting up with our S**t! Now we have more money HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
psn id: gingo... if they are getting more people going to their church why are they complaining lol Sony dont need permission to use a building in any of their games
its just a building. jesus didnt build it lol. the fact you have to apologize for using a building in a game is wrong
I would like to say its just a building, God did not send his only begotten son to save a building. To many people today think man made structures are of "Holy" value. When they are not. They almost hold them as idols which is clearly stated against Gods word. So i think its stupid. Resistance is the best game i have and i love playing it.
@galaxyman14: Church genuine? That's a laugh. This has been nothing but a genuine showing of church greed from the beginning. Sony did nothing wrong. Games use representations of earth's locales all the time. They are nothing more than representations and you don't need permission to use a representation of a public area. I seem to remember that they were willing to forgive Sony in the past in lieu of a "generous" donation to the church. Guess they had to try to fund the molestation lawsuits. They need to put this crap behind them and focus on their community at hand.
"In so many ways Sony have failed to live up to these standards "In so many ways Sony have failed to live up to these standards"........Sony??? I thought they were blaming insomniac?
So next time when we make game that based on Mars, we should ask the alien permission first before making it
"the Cathedral has received a spike in the number of visitors" Looks like they should be thanking Sony, rather than "forgiving" them.
LOL, So we thank you Sony, not because we really do, but because you helped us out after all. What a bunch of hipocrits
Amen
Donations Accepted......
@ #1 not good for sony.
wanna blow up my House For RFAM2 ? LOL . just don't do any thing to my PS3 [:-)
You know what they say: "Forgiveness is divine... but money is better". But for the love of crap, don't assume that ALL religious people are as petty and corrupt as the heads of Manchester.
I'm picturing myself what Sony would reply to the Church's "forgivness".
FU, YOU HIPOCRITS!!!
these people where to dumb to actually make some researchs on the game before Yackin.... Sony did not made the game, Insomniac did!!!
and they have nothin to apologise for either.
I agree with ya "Staticneuron", it's like suing an artist for painting a monumental statue while adding some cool things on it! :D:D:D
can you say "bribery" lol
Pfft the Church should apologize to gamers like us lol.
what a bunch of d1cks! "we are sorry about getting angry over YOUR mistake" well its surprising in its self that a church would actually apologize for anything being the people who think they are always right
damn straight u forgive um. they didn't do anything. they continue to corrupt the church...
huh?sony never made the game it was INSOMATIC u crazy fools!and ur only in the church for like 10 minutes and your saving the church from the chimera.and the game rocks!and the church :)
Give Sony a break
It's churches like this that makes real ones look like ***es. Seriously, I go to church and I'm a Christian but Resistance was one kick *** game.
come on what was that, totally rediculous. totally like whats happening here in canada with muslim women voting covered up, BS!
So will Resistance 2: Rise of Man be set in a devestated Vatican City?
Ultimately what all this means is they arnt going to get jack out of sony, or even Insomniac. They've given up and while they can say they forgive them they've completely missed that the point of forgivness is not to continue to talk about how they havent lived up to what you wanted them to do. To forgive is devine, to continue to be petty b!tches just shows how hypocritical they are.
lol "though they still believe that have done nothing wrong." - yes, and i tend to agree.
Can't they just shut up already. They've given them selves a pretty bad reputation among gamers already.
who cares its not likes it is attacking religon i thing they shouldn't care and another thing how do they even know these things do they play the games?
