The PlayStation Portable version of Gran Turismo 4 is unlikely to be released in 2008, according to Polyphony Digital’s Kazunori Yamauchi.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Yamauchi commented, "We had been developing the PSP version, but the problem was that the PS3 version took much more time and effort than we had first imagined.”
"So that's been delayed - I don't think we'll be able to make the end of this year for the PSP version, but we are working on it,” he added.
Announced back in 2004, the handheld entry in the popular racing sim was originally pencilled in for a spring 2005 release in Japan, but has since been met with numerous delays.
Yamauchi revealed that the game has undergone numerous design changes during its four-year development cycle, and hinted that the title is likely to be released as a form of add-on to Gran Turismo 5.
"Once we experienced PS3 online and went through all of that, we came to the conclusion that PSP should not be a standalone product - it should be linked in to the world of Gran Turismo, linked with the PlayStation 3,” he said.
Stay tuned.

I gave up on this a long time ago. A looooong time ago. But the "add on to Gran Turismo 5" thing made my ears perk up just a little...I'll keep my eye on it.

I too have gave up on this. been delayed for ages.
I wonder what Gingo has too say about this?
"it should be linked in to the world of Gran Turismo, linked with the PlayStation 3,” he said."
Right on.
lol @ silencer.
I wonder if the psp version will include damage?
I love how everyone claims that they've "given up on it totally" and yet one little tidbit of news and they're back on track with it. Obviously you didn't give up on it.
Honestly, I'm glad it's been delayed all this time. If it was released way back then it wouldn't of even been able to take advantage of the higher CPU speed that Sony "unlocked" and thus wouldn't of been able to create as kewl as an experience.
sony can never keep a deadline
Sony really needs to pump in some effort into sprucing up the PSP library. After GOW what do we have to look forward to on PSP? C'mon, Sony. The DS has about a 30 million unit lead on the PSP and that in my opinion is pathetic considering the PSP is a multimedia phenom and the DS is nothing more than a childs play toy you poke with a plastic stick and blow on. Sony could've overtaken the handheld market and destroyed nintendo if they tried a bit harder. Does anyone agree with my thoughts?
Numerous delays? Like 4 fvcking years!
Do you all see what this "demo" GT5P has done to your universe? GT PSP and GT5 have all been pushed back for a quick fix of GT. Hope you're satisfied.
Just enjoy what currently is out there.
And hopefully GT PSP was redesign with a good idea on mind. I like that connectivity of PS3 and PSP.
psn id: gingo... @ Silencer.... well gingo doesn't have much to say to this as he doesn't own a psp lol
well I'm glad there still making this; I could have sworn they said it was cancelled..oh well sounds like its gunna be really good now
Cancelled? see what happens when you listen to unsubstantiated rumors? They never said they werent going to make it they just thought the consol version was a bit more important, THAT's why it's taken 4 years, has nothing to do with sony keeping a deadline or anything like that because the game was never officially given a date, they just showed it at E3 as an example and even then it was just a scaled back version of GT4 squeezed onto a UMD with no controls.
@DeadOnArrival06
The DS has a different target audience. Everything you said about the DS also applies to the Wii. Somethings you can't compete with. 4 years ago the PSP was way too expensive for the average parent compared to it's Nintendo counterpart. Come to think of it, that sounds familiar, too. But as far as your point about Sony missing an opportunity, did you know how much of a lock Nintendo had on the handheld market? Are you old enough to remember that there was basically no one else? Anyone that tried (Sega (twice), NEC (tiny Turbografix 16)) failed. Think of it like this: Microsoft knew they were fighting a losing battle with the first Xbox. They got a tiny, tiny market share. Now they have the 360. They did much better. In comparision, the PSP took a LOT more handheld marketshake than the Xbox did for console market share the first time around. Sony was the fist company to actually release a handheld that could compete against N's "Gameboy" line. But what I wanna know is, does anyone else appreciate that Sony's target gamer is apparently someone (like me) who likes all-in-one devices? Has anyone else noticed that most of the "But it's a game machine first" complaints I heard when the PSP was launched and then again for the PS3 are dying down. People are starting to accept that if you buy Sony, you are getting a lot more functionality and I for one love it.
wish it will be release faster :D
Theres no point now
Don't take my rant as a diss towards the PSP. I love the thing to death! As a matter of fact, after I purchased the new silver slim PSP I paid more attention to it than to the woman I'm going to marry. All I'm saying is I believe Sony could've made much more of an impact with the PSP if they focused on more quality games for it. I agree that the PSP is no where near to being called a failure or anything, I think it has done wonderfully, I just think Sony could've taken over nintendo's handheld market with the right concentration.
