Insomniac's Ted Price talks Resistance 2

Posted on April 4th, 2008 at 05:39 EDT

Speaking at Sony Computer Entertainment Australia’s ‘Pause’ event in Sydney yesterday, Insomniac Games boss Ted Price took the opportunity to address attendees on the company’s upcoming PlayStation 3 sequel, Resistance 2.

Price kicked things off by commenting on the “lack of unification” between Resistance: Fall of Man’s single and multiplayer experiences, asserting that this would be one of the many features addressed in Resistance 2.

Indeed, Price noted that he considers the titles 8-player co-op as the perfect means of bridging the gap between the single and multiplayer modes, and that it would facilitate the process of learning to work as a team for those who have yet to make the transition into a heated online battle.

He also said that the game would be more community focused, describing many current First Person Shooter (FPS) communities as "anaemic".

Elsewhere, Price conceded that the opening moments of the original title were relatively “weak”, and promised that gamers could expect a far greater beginning to the sequel. What’s more, the developers have dispatched the third person narrative of the original title, focusing entirely on the events of protagonist Nathan Hale as he comes to terms with his infection at the hands of the Chimera, who have begun their invasion of the United States.

Price also revealed that the game’s locations would be far removed from the stereotypical view of suburban America of modern times, and would be replaced by desolate, bleak wastelands as the Chimera cement their hold over the region.

Lastly, he confirmed that more information on 60 player online multiplayer mode and 8-player co-op would be unveiled in the near future.

Resistance 2 is due out later this year.

Man 8 player Co-op! Wtf! That's just gonna swamp the maps. Think of the inside locations in Resistance (1) with 8 players running around, haha. That would be funny. But there will probably be larger maps in Resistance 2. Over

I agree, the first game was weak. It was so much fun....for about a week. I have no doubt they fixed everything they needed, they've had two years to work on it.

@ Kane: Resistance 2 will have a separate co-op campaign so you wont be playing the same maps in the the singleplayer campaign and the co-op campaign.

I agree with most of you guys, This game will be sick!!

As far as I am conserned the first Resistance killed all Halos. And I am prettey sure if they live up to what they said the 2nd game will be , the talk in the gaming comunnity will be all about Resistance 2 and how good the game is! Halo sucked and the only reasion people like it is because rich morons said it was the best game ever and the poor small brained xbox 360 owners thought "Well if the big ol mighty and loyal Bill and Bungie say its a good game and that everyone has it even all of the rich people then I shall get the game." Little do the small pea brained 360 owners know that they have been brainwashed. I mean com`on, if it wasn't for stupid people, microsoft wouldn't have a gaming division and Bungie wouldn't have good selling game.

Hey Motzo, type much?

---

I don't know what's up with retailers but I won't pick up Resistance until it drops down in price.  It's been out for almost 17 months and everyone still has it as $60.  The demo was fun but there are other games I can get that aren't price-jacked.  Launch titles should be down to $40 now.

I fell in love within the first 10 mins I played it. I truly think if the 8 player co-op plays well, it will be a Halo killer. I don't think Killzone 2 will be as fleshed out when it comes to online play.

is anyone else getting sick of people saying oh "This game is guna be a halo killer" or killzone is... i mean cmon! in many ppls oppinions...(including mine) resistance one was a halo killer... Seriously i cant figure out wut is so great about halo.... i played it for a bout 5 minutes before i realized it wasnt nothing special...maybe for  10 year olds.... but then again maybe it is just me

Uh, the first one was awesome as far as FPS games go. Those who say otherwise are shallow. What FPS game is better? Halo, COD, Half life? I've finished these and like Resistance far more. Next time play farther than the first level before writing a game off! This game had a long and enjoyable campaign mode. The second one will be far more polished and therefore get more respect from critics and gamers alike but those who gave the first one a chance know it was a classic.

psn id: gingo.... honestly cant wait for this title if the campaign is as good as the first one then it will be amazing, they have a lot of work to do for the multiplayed but i think they will improve it

@ Tabular:  I agree that the game was awesome and that I also fell in love with the game as soon as I played it (when I got it not in-store as some people make the decisions of buying a game or not from a 5 min trial at the stores). But the game was no where near as brilliant graphics or gameplay as Half Life 2 (and other counterparts). The story was the best the first time but after playing it 4 times and finishing it on every difficulty you go back and play it. The only games I've actually played for fun after total completion are Halo (only number 1, as 2 is sh!te and 3 is 1 but high-def), Half Life 2, Zelda, Uncharted, Killzone and GTA's. Compared to these Resistance campaign isn't that great.

to anyone who doesnt like resistance one, bugger off, we dont care if your not buying it. the rest of us think this will define first person shooters for the next few years. compare it to halo if you like. i thought it was good for a while too, but it is wearing out fast. go insomniac YOU ROCK!!!!!

Halo doen't matter anymore. I personally think Halo 2>Halo 3>Resistance 1>Halo, but halo is easily beaten by COD4 and RSV2. I honestly have never played Half-Life.
