After the recent releases of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus and Silent Hill Origins, it seems like Konami is set to start working on a new title for Sony's handheld system.
Coming down the rumor mill is talks of a new Metal Gear title and speculation is that the title may take place in the earlier days of the Metal Gear universe. This may have some tie-ins with the upcoming release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and its story being set in the future of the Metal Gear Solid series.
The original Metal Gear Solid was released in October of 1998 on the Sony PlayStation, with a remake releasing on the GameCube in the form of Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes in March of 2004.
Continuing the story in the series was Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty released on PlayStation 2 which is now the prequel to the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots to be released next year on the PlayStation 3.

Love metal gear, a remake would be great. except I sold my PSP :(, but i'll buy one if this comes out, I already have a sealed portable ops on my shelf gathering dust haha
Why would you sell your PSP? Crisis core is around the corner! I am still in the process of playing 4 games concurrently on the system.... all of them... will eat my life.
They dont have to make a remake of the game.. Just come out with it on the PSN as a PS1 for $5.99.. Instead of trying to hit us over the head and selling it for $40.. Perfect exmaple "Final Fantasy tactic's" Same damn game as the PS1 so why didnt they come out with it for the PSN like the other games.. No they came out with some little extra content and are selling for $40 UMD..
What? Didn't Ryan Payton denied that rumor a week ago in KP Report? If I remember right there is actually no new MGS for PSP in production.

Sorry, but I call false. I read that this new game was to be a sequel for the Portable Ops. I don't think they were talking about a remake here.

This is an old article but I didn't see it! GAHH! :P I would love a MGS1 remake for the PSP... I think. THen again, I may just get the twin snakes.
